Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Chloramphenicol kills the bacteria by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins required for the survival of bacteria. Clotrimazole kills the fungi by breaking down the fungal cell wall/protective covering. Beclomethasone reduces inflammation by blocking the chemical messengers that cause inflammation

Pharmacokinets

The pharmacokinetics of chloramphenicol succinate have been described by a 2-compartment model. The reported values for the apparent volume of distribution range from 0.2 to 3.1 L/kg. Chloramphenicol succinate is metabolised (hydrolysed) by esterases in the body to active chloramphenicol

After vaginal treatment with clotrimazole, the small fraction absorbed into the systemic circulation--between 3% and 10% of the dose--is subjected to metabolism and excretion as after oral or intravenous administration. The vaginal availability of clotrimazole is largely dependent on the formulation applied

Rapidly absorbed from pulmonary, nasal, and GI tissue. Undergoes extensive first-pass metabolism in the liver. Protein binding: 87%. Primarily eliminated in feces.
