Clopixol Depot Injection is given as an injection under the supervision of a healthcare professional and should not be self-administered. Take it at the same time each day as this helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body. Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor and if you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember it. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. This medication mustn't be stopped suddenly without talking to your doctor as it may worsen your symptoms.
Zuclopenthixol is a thioxanthene with therapeutic actions similar to the phenothiazine antipsychotics. It is an antagonist at D1 and D2 dopamine receptors. Zuclopenthixol is a typical antipsychotic neuroleptic drug of the thioxanthene class. It mainly acts by antagonism of D1 and D2 dopamine receptors
The metabolism of zuclopenthixol is mainly by sulphoxidation, side chain N-dealkylation and glucuronic acid conjugation. The metabolites are devoid of pharmacological activity. Primarily in the feces with approximately 10% in the urine. 20 hours (range 12-28 hours) for the tablet form, 19 days for the depot form

Orthostatic hypotension (sudden lowering of blood pressure on standing)
Sleepiness

Urinary retention
Weight gain
Contraindicated in patients with unconsciousness due to alcohol, barbiturate and opiate consumption, porphyria, and hypersensitivity
Clopixol Depot Injection may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.
Clopixol Depot Injection may cause excessive drowsiness with alcohol.
Clopixol Depot Injection is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.
Zuclopenthixol is an antipsychotic indicated for the management of schizophrenia. The acuphase formulation is indicated for initial treatment of acute psychosis or exacerbation of psychosis, while the depot formulation is best for maintenance

It may affect how your body regulates your temperature. Avoid situations that can result in your overheating or getting dehydrated.
It may increase your weight, blood sugar and cholesterol. Eat healthy, exercise regularly and monitor your blood levels regularly.
Inform your doctor if you experience any swelling, particularly of the face, lips, jaw and tongue and trouble breathing while taking this medicine.
