Cof Q Lozenges is taken with or without food in a dose and duration as advised by the doctor. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen. Let your doctor know about all other medications you are taking as some may affect, or be affected by this medicine.The most common side effects are stomach upset and sore tongue. Most of these are temporary and usually resolve with time. Contact your doctor straight away if you are at all concerned about any of these side effects. This medicine may also cause dizziness, so do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine as it can make dizziness worse.

Mechanism Of Action

Cof Q Lozenges is a combination of two medicines: Amylmetacresol and dextromethorphan. Amylmetacresol is an antiseptic medicine which works by killing the bacteria associated with mouth and throat infections. Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant that relieves cough by reducing the activity of cough centre in the brain.


Pharmacokinets

Amylmetacresol is used in the treatment of sore throat. Amylmetacresol belongs to class of medications called antiseptics. Amylmetacresol works by killing the bacteria associated with mouth and throat infections. It also works in the area of the discomfort and helps lubricate and soothe the painful area.Dextromethorphan is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and converted into the active metabolite dextrorphan in the liver by the cytochrome P450 enzyme CYP2D6. The average dose necessary for effective antitussive therapy is between 10 and 45 mg, depending on the individual.

Interactions

If you use other drugs or over the counter products at the same time, the effects of Cof Q Lozenges may change. This may increase your risk for side-effects or cause your drug not to work properly. Tell your doctor about all the drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements you are using, so that you doctor can help you prevent or manage drug interactions. Cof Q Lozenges may interact with the following drugs and products:

Alcohol

Amiodarone

Cough and cold medicines

Haloperidol

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors

Propafenone

Quinidine

Thioridazine

Typical Dosage

Do not handle the tablets with wet hands. Place it in your mouth and allow it to dissolve slowly. Do not chew or swallow. It may take sometime to dissolve. Cof Q Lozenges may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Effects Of Missed Dosage

If you miss a dose of Cof Q Lozenges, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Expert Advice

Cof Q Lozenges is prescribed to get relief from a dry cough.

Cof Q Lozenges should be taken after every 2 to 3 hours or as suggested by the doctor. Suck one lozenge slowly as required.

Do not take it for more than 3 days. Consult your doctor if you do not observe any improvement in symptoms.

Do not take more than 8 lozenges in 24 hours.

Each lozenge contains sugar. This should be taken into account if you have diabetes mellitus.
