Col 400mg Injection reduces the risk of having another stroke, especially in a patient who has already had a stroke earlier. It can be used alone or in combination with other medicines. It is given as an injection under the supervision of a doctor. You can reduce your risk of having a blood clot by making changes to your lifestyle, such as not smoking, eating a healthy diet, getting regular exercise and losing weight if you need to.

Mechanism Of Action

Ticlopidine is an effective inhibitor of platelet aggregation. It is a prodrug that is metabolised to an active form, which blocks the ADP receptor that is involved in GPIIb/IIIa receptor activation leading to platelet aggregation.


Pharmacokinets

Pharmacokinetics and Metabolism: After oral administration of a single 250-mg dose, ticlopidine hydrochloride is rapidly absorbed with peak plasma levels occurring at approximately 2 hours after dosing and is extensively metabolized. Absorption is greater than 80%.

Contra Indications

Ticlopidine is contraindicated in patients with or a history of hematological disease related to hematopoiesis such as neutropenia and thrombocytopenia or a history of agranulocytosis or aplastic anemia, bone marrow suppression, leukemia, neutropenia, pancytopenia, thrombocytopenia, or thrombotic thrombocytopenic 

Pregnancy Related Information

Col 400mg Injection is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.

Indications

To reduce the risk of thrombotic stroke (fatal or nonfatal) in patients who have experienced stroke precursors, and in patients who have had a completed thrombotic stroke.


Interactions

Some products that may interact with this drug include: mifepristone, other antiplatelet drugs (such as clopidogrel), cimetidine, antacids. Other drugs like this medication that affect blood clotting may increase your risk of bleeding.

Effects Of Missed Dosage

If you miss a dose of Col 400mg Injection, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
