Sulfamethoxazole is well-absorbed when administered topically. It is rapidly absorbed when it is orally administered. Sulfamethoxazole distributes into most body tissues as well as into sputum, vaginal fluid, and middle ear fluid.Single oral dose trimethoprim pharmacokinetics were determined in 18 children aged 3 months to 13 years. Trimethoprim suspension was rapidly absorbed and quickly and widely distributed.
