Artesunate is an artemisinin derivative that is metabolized to DHA, which generates free radicals to inhibit normal function of Plasmodium parasites. It has a short duration of action due to its short half life, and a moderate therapeutic index.
AS is metabolized through esterase-catalyzed hydrolysis to yield its active metabolite, DHA [17]; this conversion occurs quickly following IV AS administration as indicated by the rapid decline in AS concentrations in the early post-dose period

Known contraindications include a previous severe allergic reaction to artesunate. Drugs that should be avoided while on artesunate are the drugs that inhibit the liver enzyme CYP2A6. These drugs include amiodarone, desipramine, isoniazid, ketoconazole, letrozole, methoxsalen and tranylcypromine.
Combither AT 120mg Injection may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.

Artesunate for Injection is indicated for the initial treatment of severe malaria in adult and pediatric patients. Treatment of severe malaria with Artesunate for Injection should always be followed by a complete treatment course of an appropriate oral antimalarial regimen [see Dosage and Administration
