You can give it either before or after meals. Stick to the dose, time, and way prescribed by your doctor as that depends on your child’s clinical condition, body weight, and age.  In case your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking this medicine, let the child calm down, and then repeat the dose.

Before giving this medicine to your child, let the doctor know if your child has had any previous episodes of medicine allergy, metabolic disorder, liver impairment, kidney malfunction, asthma, or blood disorder. This information is critical for dose alterations and for planning your child’s overall treatment.

Mechanism Of Action

Metoclopramide increases gastric emptying by decreasing lower esophageal sphincter (LES) pressure. It also exerts effects on the area postrema of the brain, preventing and relieving the symptoms of nausea and vomiting

Pharmacokinets

Metoclopramide is rapidly and well absorbed. Relative to an intravenous dose of 20 mg, the absolute oral bioavailability of metoclopramide is 80% ± 15.5% as demonstrated in a crossover study of 18 subjects. Peak plasma concentrations occur at about 1 to 2 hr after a single oral dose

It distributes rapidly and evenly throughout most tissues and fluids and has a volume of distribution of approximately 0.9L/kg. 10 to 20% of the drug is bound to red blood cells. Paracetamol is extensively metabolised (predominantly in the liver), the major metabolites being the sulphate and glucuronide conjugates

Indications

METOCLOPRAMIDE+PARACETAMOL is used to treat migraine signs such as headache, being sick (vomiting) and feeling sick (nausea). Metoclopramide is an anti-emetic that works on the part of the brain, thereby prevents the symptoms of nausea and vomiting.


Interactions

Drug-Disease Interactions: METOCLOPRAMIDE+PARACETAMOL may have interactions with blockage or bleeding in your stomach, epilepsy/fits, phaeochromocytoma (tumour of the adrenal gland), uncontrollable movements, severe kidney or liver problems.


Typical Dosage

Shake well before use. Copar 1.25mg/125mg Syrup may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Effects Of Missed Dosage

Do not panic. Unless your doctor has advised a specific regime for your child, you can give the missed dose as soon as you remember it. Skip the missed dose if it is almost the time for the next dose. Do not give a double dose and follow the prescribed dosing schedule.

If diarrhea develops as a side effect, encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids.

Never give any other medicines containing paracetamol along with this medicine as that may lead to serious side effects.
