Cortina DS 800mg/160mg Tablet is a prescription medicine that is advised to be taken as suggested by the doctor. It should be taken with food and it must be taken at a fixed time to ensure better efficacy. Do not consume more than the recommended dose, as an overdose of it may have harmful effects on your body. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. The treatment must be completed even if you feel better to ensure a complete recovery.
Cortina DS 800mg/160mg Tablet is used to treat various types of bacterial infections such as pneumonia, bronchitis, infections of the urinary tract, ear, and abdomen. It prevents the growth of microorganisms to cure the infection
Sulfamethoxazole competitively inhibits dihydropteroate synthase, the enzyme responsible for bacterial conversion of PABA to dihydrofolic acid. Inhibition of this pathway prevents the synthesis of tetrahydrofolate and, ultimately, the synthesis of bacterial purines and DNA, resulting in a bacteriostatic effect.
Trimethoprim is an antifolate antibacterial agent that inhibits bacterial dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR), a critical enzyme that catalyzes the formation of tetrahydrofolic acid (THF) - in doing so, it prevents the synthesis of bacterial DNA and ultimately continued bacterial survival

Cortina DS 800mg/160mg Tablet is safe to use during breastfeeding. Human studies suggest that the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in a significant amount and is not harmful to the baby.
There may be a possibility of skin rash in the baby.

If you miss a dose of Cortina DS 800mg/160mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

You have been prescribed Cortina DS 800mg/160mg Tablet for the treatment of many types of bacterial infections.
Finish the prescribed course of Cortina DS 800mg/160mg Tablet, even if you start to feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection come back and harder to treat.
Diarrhea may occur as a side effect but should stop when your course is complete. Inform your doctor if it does not stop or if you find blood in your stools.
Stop taking Cortina DS 800mg/160mg Tablet and inform your doctor if you develop skin rash/blisters or other unexplained skin reaction while taking Cortina DS 800mg/160mg Tablet.
In case of long-term use, have regular monthly blood tests to monitor your blood cells as suggested by your doctor.

Cortina DS 800mg/160mg Tablet is a combination of two medicines: Sulfamethoxazole+Trimethoprim. It is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections and works by stopping the growth of the bacteria causing the infection. It treats urinary tract infections, ear infections, enteritis (inflammation of the small intestine), pneumonia, traveler's diarrhea, and episodes of difficulty breathing in people with chronic (long-term) bronchitis.

Yes, Cortina DS 800mg/160mg Tablet is safe to use in most patients. However, in some patients, it may cause some unwanted common side effects like Nausea, Vomiting, Skin rash, Allergic reaction. Inform your doctor as soon as possible if you experience any persistent problem while taking this medication.

Yes, the use of Cortina DS 800mg/160mg Tablet can cause nausea and vomiting. In case, you experience nausea while taking this medicine, take it with milk, food or with antacids. Avoid taking fatty or fried foods. If you start to experience vomiting, drink plenty of water or other fluids. Try small frequent sips of the liquid. Talk to your doctor if you have persistent vomiting and signs of dehydration like dark colored and strong-smelling urine and a low frequency of urination. Do not take any other medicines without speaking to a doctor.
Q. Are there any specific contraindications associated with the use of Cortina DS 800mg/160mg Tablet?
Cortina DS 800mg/160mg Tablet is contraindicated in patients with known allergy to any of the component or excipients of this medicine and in patients with a history of drug-induced immune thrombocytopenia (low platelet count), megaloblastic anemia due to folate deficiency. The medicine is also contraindicated in pediatric patients less than 2 months of age and in patients with marked hepatic damage or with severe renal insufficiency when renal function status cannot be monitored.
