Critinem 500 mg/500 mg Injection works by killing bacteria which can cause serious infections. It is used to treat many different types of bacterial infections. It is given by a doctor or nurse into a vein and should not be self-administered.

Pharmacokinets

Imipenem is metabolized by renal dehydropeptidase. Approximately 70% of imipenem is excreted in the urine as the parent drug. When given via IV injection imipenem has a half-life of 1 h. The apparent half-life of the IM injection ranges from 1.3-5.1 h, likely due to slower absorption form the injection site.Cilastatin is a beta-lactam antibiotic of the carbapenems class with a broad spectrum of activity. The mechanism of action is similar to the other beta-lactam antibiotics, which is to inactivate the penicillin-binding proteins (PBP) and cause cell wall lysis, or interfere with cell wall formation.

Interactions

CILASTATIN+IMIPENEM may have interaction with anti-viral (Ganciclovir), uricosurics (Probenecid), anti-epileptic (Valproic acid, Divalproex sodium), blood thinner (warfarin).
