Cytop 20mg Tablet can be taken with or without food. The dose and how often you need it will be decided by your doctor so that you get the right amount to control your symptoms. Your doctor may start you on a lower dose and increase it gradually. Do not change the dose or stop taking it without talking to your doctor, even if you feel well. Doing so may make your condition worse or you may suffer from unpleasant withdrawal symptoms (anxiety, restlessness, palpitations, dizziness, sleep disturbances, etc).
To get the most benefit, take this medicine regularly at the same time each day. Your doctor may advise you to take it in the morning if you have trouble sleeping. It may take a few weeks before you start feeling better. Let your doctor know if you do not see any improvement even after 4 weeks.
Some common side effects of this medicine include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dry mouth, increased sweating, insomnia (difficulty in sleeping), decreased sexual drive, delayed ejaculation, and erectile dysfunction. Some people may experience sleepiness after taking this medicine. Let your doctor know straight away if you develop any sudden worsening of mood or any thoughts about harming yourself.
Before taking Cytop 20mg Tablet, you should tell your doctor if you have epilepsy (seizure disorder or fits), diabetes, liver or kidney disease, any heart problems, or are currently taking medicines for depression known as MAO inhibitors. These may affect your treatment. Please tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking to make sure you are safe.
The mechanism of action of citalopram HBr as an antidepressant is presumed to be linked to potentiation of serotonergic activity in the central nervous system resulting from its inhibition of CNS neuronal reuptake of serotonin
The single- and multiple-dose pharmacokinetics of citalopram are linear and dose-proportional in a dose range of 10-60 mg/day. Biotransformation of citalopram is mainly hepatic, with a mean terminal half-life of about 35 hours

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Cytop 20mg Tablet.
Cytop 20mg Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.
Babies should be monitored for behavioral side effects such as sleepiness or fussiness.
The primary FDA-approved clinical use for citalopram hydrobromide is for the treatment of depression in adults. Non-FDA-approved uses include alcohol use disorder, coronary arteriosclerosis, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, postmenopausal flushing, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder
Some products that may interact with this drug include: other drugs that can cause bleeding/bruising (including antiplatelet drugs such as clopidogrel, NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, "blood thinners" such as warfarin). Aspirin can increase the risk of bleeding when used with this medication

Store below 30°C
If you miss a dose of Cytop 20mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

No, it is advised not to take alcohol while taking Cytop 20mg Tablet. Cytop 20mg Tablet can cause sleepiness or may affect your ability to make decisions, think clearly, or react quickly. And taking alcohol with this medicine will only worsen these side effects. Therefore, you must avoid alcohol if you are on Cytop 20mg Tablet.
Q. Can Cytop 20mg Tablet cause abnormal heartbeat or arrhythmia?
Yes, Cytop 20mg Tablet has been found to cause prolongation of the QT interval (a type of ECG abnormality) that can lead to arrhythmia (abnormal heartbeat or heart rhythm), which can be dangerous. However, this is very rare according to scientific research reports. Moreover, abnormalities in electrolyte levels (such as potassium and magnesium) may also increase the risk of abnormalities in the heartbeat of people suffering from heart problems. Such people must have an ECG review, before as well as during treatment with Cytop 20mg Tablet. However, the final decision will be only made by your doctor, after analyzing your health condition and considering all possible risks and benefits of this medicine.
