Dacarex 500mg Injection is given as an injection into a vein by the healthcare professional, but better if injected at the same time every day. Your doctor will decide what dose is necessary and how often you need to take it. This will depend on what you are being treated for and may change from time to time. You should take it exactly as your doctor has advised. Taking it in the wrong way or taking too much can cause very serious side effects. It may take several weeks or months for you to see or feel the benefits but do not stop taking it unless your doctor tells you to.
The exact mechanism of action of dacarbazine is not known. Its major action is through alkylation. Dacarbazine is activated by liver microsomal enzymes to form 5-(3-monomethyl-1-triazenyl)-1H-imidazole-4-carboxamide (MTIC). It inhibits DNA and RNA synthesis by forming carbonium ions.
The pharmacokinetics of dacarbazine (DTIC) and its main metabolite 5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide (AIC) have been studied in eight patients with malignant melanoma or sarcoma receiving 2.65--6.85 mg DTIC/kg body weight by intravenous bolus injection or by continuous 0.5--6-h infusions on 5 consecutive days.
