Dacotin 50 Injection is given as an injection into vein by a qualified medical professional.  Your doctor will decide what dose is necessary and how often you need to take it. This will depend on what you are being treated for and may change from time to time. You should take it exactly as your doctor has advised. Taking it in the wrong way or taking too much can cause very serious side effects. It may take several weeks or months for you to see or feel the benefits but do not stop taking it unless your doctor tells you to.

Mechanism Of Action

oxaliplatin exerts its cytotoxic effect mostly through dna damage. Apoptosis of cancer cells can be caused by formation of dna lesions, arrest of dna synthesis, inhibition of rna synthesis, and triggering of immunologic reactions.


Pharmacokinets

The pharmacokinetics of oxaliplatin are described by a 3-compartment model. The drug rapidly crosses the cellular membrane as a result of its lipophilicity. Hence, at the end of a 2-hour infusion, approximately 40% of the blood platinum is found in erythrocytes

Side Effects

Nausea

Fatigue

Anemia (low number of red blood cells)

Vomiting

Diarrhea

Decreased white blood cell count (neutrophils)

Low blood platelets

Increased liver enzymes

Peripheral neuropathy (tingling and numbness of feet and hand)

Stomatitis (Inflammation of the mouth)

Contra Indications

Oxaliplatin is contraindicated in patients who have/are: Platinum hypersensitivity anaphylaxis. Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome. Grade 3 or 4 peripheral sensory neuropathy

Pregnancy Related Information

Dacotin 50 Injection is unsafe to use during pregnancy as there is definite evidence of risk to the developing baby. However, the doctor may rarely prescribe it in some life-threatening situations if the benefits are more than the potential risks. Please consult your doctor.


Product And Alcohol Interaction

It is not known whether it is safe to consume alcohol with Dacotin 50 Injection. Please consult your doctor.


Breast Feeding Related Information

Dacotin 50 Injection is unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Data suggests that the drug may cause toxicity to the baby.
