It is a combination of two antibiotics Norfloxacin and Tinidazole.


However, remember that this drug will not be effective for infections that aren’t caused by bacteria (viral infections such as common cold and the flu). Using an antibiotic repetitively and for infections that aren’t bacterial will lead the medicine to lose its potency over a period of time.


The treatment plan and dosage will depend upon the severity of the condition. It is advised to take this drug minimum two hours prior to consuming other minerals/vitamins or such products containing aluminium/magnesium such as antacids.



Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Norfloxacin works by preventing the bacterial cells from dividing and repairing, thereby killing the bacteria. Tinidazole kills parasites and anaerobic bacteria that cause infections by damaging their DNA

Pharmacokinets

Absorption of norfloxacin is rapid following single doses of 200 mg, 400 mg and 800 mg. At the respective doses, mean peak serum and plasma concentrations of 0.8, 1.5 and 2.4 μg/mL are attained approximately one hour after dosing.

The plasma half-life of tinidazole is approximately 12-14 hours. Tinidazole is excreted by the liver and the kidneys. Tinidazole is excreted in the urine mainly as unchanged drug (approximately 20-25% of the administered dose). Approximately 12% of the drug is excreted in the feces

Contra Indications

diarrhea from an infection with Clostridium difficile bacteria.

Use of this medicine is not recommended in women who breastfeed due to the adverse effect on the development of the infant's joints. Use only if clearly needed under the supervision of the doctor. Monitoring of undesired effects like diarrhea, diaper rash is necessary.


Indications

Norfloxacin is used to treat certain bacterial infections in many different parts of the body. Norfloxacin may mask or delay the symptoms of syphilis. It is not effective against syphilis infections. Norfloxacin belongs to the class of medicines known as quinolone antibiotics.

Tinidazole is indicated for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis (formerly referred to as Haemophilus vaginitis, Gardnerella vaginitis, nonspecific vaginitis, or anaerobic vaginosis) in non-pregnant women

Interactions

Norfloxacin should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal, milk, or other dairy products. If you are taking aluminum or magnesium-containing antacids, iron supplements, multivitamins, Didanosine

Some products that may interact with this drug include: alcohol-containing products (such as cough and cold syrups, aftershave), products containing propylene glycol, lopinavir/ritonavir solution, lithium. Do not take tinidazole if you are also taking disulfiram or if you have taken disulfiram within the last 2 weeks.
