Dapsone Tablet should be used in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. It should be taken with or without food, preferably at a fixed time. Avoid skipping any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. Simply take the next dose as planned.Some people may develop a skin rash and fever as the side effects of this medicine. Please consult your doctor if these side effects bother you or persist for a longer duration. Use caution while treating patients with hypersensitivity to sulfa drugs.
As an antimicrobial agent, dapsone is bacteriostatic in action. It inhibits the synthesis of dihydrofolic acid through by competing with para-aminobenzoic acid for the active site of dihydropteroate synthetase [35, 41], thus resembling the action of sulphonamides.
The elimination half-life of dapsone is about 30 hours. The drug shows linear pharmacokinetics within the therapeutic range and the time-course after oral administration fits a 2-compartment model. The concentration-time profile of dapsone after parenteral administration is reviewed.

Dapsone is indicated for a variety of conditions, both dermatologic and non-dermatologic. The FDA-approved indications are leprosy and dermatitis herpetiformis. The non-FDA-approved indications include a wide range of dermatoses and malaria and Pneumocystis (carinii) jiroveci prophylaxis and treatment.
