Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Diethylcarbamazine and Chlorpheniramine Maleate which treat parasitic infections. Diethylcarbamazine is an antiparasitic which works by decreasing the muscular activity and causing paralysis of the parasites (worms)

Pharmacokinets

Diethylcarbamazine is well absorbed following oral administration with peak plasma concentrations reached within 1-2 hours. The elimination half life ranges from 10-12 hours. If the urine is alkalinized, renal excretion of unchanged drug is prevented and the half life of the drug increases.

Chlorpheniramine has a serum half-life of approximately 20 hours in adults, and elimination from the body is primarily by metabolism to monodesmethyl and didesmethyl compounds. The half-life is increased in the presence of renal dysfunction and decreased in children.
