Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Deflazacort is a corticosteroid prodrug, whose active metabolite, 21-desDFZ, acts through the glucocorticoid receptor to exert anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. The precise mechanism by which deflazacort exerts its therapeutic effects in patients with DMD is unknown.

Tamsulosin is in a class of medications called alpha blockers. It works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder so that urine can flow easily

Pharmacokinets

Deflazacort is rapidly absorbed after oral administration with peak concentration occurring within 1-2 hours. One pharmacokinetic study determined an AUC (area under the curve) of 280 ng/ml · h. The bioavailability of both the oral suspension and tablet are similar

Tamsulosin exhibits high plasma-protein binding, largely to alpha(1)-acid glycoprotein. It is metabolized, mainly by cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4 and CYP2D6 to compounds with low abundance, and 8.7-15% of an oral dose is excreted renally as the parent compound

Side Effects

Runny nose

Ejaculation disorder

Dizziness
