Deriva-BPO gel works by the combined action of both its components - adapalene and benzoyl peroxide.Adapalene works by decreasing the swelling and redness of the skin, thus reducing pimples.Benzoyl peroxide works by killing the acne-causing bacteria, thus softening and peeling (or scaling) the outer layer of the skin.
Adapalene modulates cellular keratinization and inflammatory process. This anti-inflammatory effect is due to inhibition of the lipooxygenase activity and also to oxidative metabolism of arachidonic acid. These mechanisms may be the reason for decreased risk of irritation with adapalene. In the skin, benzoyl peroxide is metabolized to benzoic acid. Approximately 5% of the benzoic acid is systemically absorbed and excreted in the urine. After topical application to the skin, benzoyl peroxide is absorbed through the epidermis. Approximately 5% of the benzoic acid is systemically absorbed.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them
