Mechanism Of Action

Dithranol is highly effective in the treatment of psoriasis. The drug inhibits keratinocyte hyperproliferation, granulocyte function and, in addition, may exert an immunosuppressive effect.

Salicylic acid works by removing and shedding dead cells from the top layer of skin by increasing skin moisture resulting in a decrease in scaling and dryness

The mechanism of action of coal tar is not well understood. Postulated effects include a suppression of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) synthesis and subsequent inhibition of keratinocyte proliferation. Coal tar is thought to help correct the defect of differentiation in keratinocytes of patients with psoriasis.


Pharmacokinets

Pharmacokinetic variables were calculated in a non-compartmental model. The elimination half-life (T1/2 el) of SA after IV administration of 200 mg/kg SS was 1.16 ± 0.32 h. Mean bioavailability of SA was 64%, and mean T1/2 el was 1.90 ± 0.35 h, after 200 mg/kg of oral SS.

Indications

Dithranol is used to treat chronic plaque psoriasis - this is the most common type of psoriasis. It is a condition where red scaly patches called plaques develop on your skin. The most common areas affected are over your elbows and knees, the scalp, and the lower part of your back

Salicylic acid topical is used to treat many skin disorders, such as acne, dandruff, psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis of the skin and scalp, calluses, corns, common warts, and plantar warts, depending on the dosage form and strength of the preparation

Coal tars are complex and variable mixtures of phenols, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and heterocyclic compounds. It has been indicated for local relief of itching, dryness, and irritation caused by psoriasis, seborrhea and eczema.

Interactions

Derobin Ointment may interact with vitamin A-related drugs known as retinoids (isotretinoin, tretinoin, trifarotene, tazarotene, adapalene), anti-cancer drugs (alitretinoin, bexarotene). Drug-Food Interaction: No interactions found.

Effects Of Missed Dosage

If you miss a dose of Derobin Ointment, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Use moisturizer regularly to overcome skin dryness during the course of treatment.

Do not use this medicine on open wounds and cuts.

Your skin may become more sensitive to sunlight than normal while you are using Derobin Ointment. Try to avoid sitting out in the sun and do not use sunbeds.

It may take several weeks to show its action. Keep using it as suggested by your doctor.
