Pioglitazone is a thiazolidinedione that increases insulin sensitivity in target tissues. It is well-absorbed, with a mean absolute bioavailability of 83% and reaching maximum concentrations in around 1.5 hours. It is metabolised by the hepatic cytochrome P450 enzyme system.

Indications

Pioglitazone is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is also available in combination with metformin, 5 glimepiride, 6 or alogliptin 7 for the same indication.

Do not chew, crush or break it. Diaglit 15 Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
