Diolex 5mg Tablet is best taken at night when it is used to treat constipation. It should be swallowed whole and must not be chewed, broken or crushed. It is recommended to start with the lowest dose and increase if you need to, but do not exceed the maximum daily dose. You should not use this medicine for more than the recommended days unless your doctor tells you to. Some lifestyle changes can help with constipation, for example drinking plenty of fluids, exercise regularly, eating more fiber-rich foods such as fruits, vegetables, and cereals.
Bisacodyl works by stimulating enteric neurons to cause peristalsis, i.e., colonic contractions. It is also a contact laxative; it increases fluid and salt secretion. The action of bisacodyl on the small intestine is negligible; stimulant laxatives mainly promote evacuation of the colon
Bisacodyl is administered either orally or rectally. Bisacodyl distributes locally, and the circulating drug undergoes hepatic metabolism and is then excreted in the urine. Bisacodyl is minimally absorbed (15%), and the onset of action of the drug begins 6—8 hours after an oral dose
