Mechanism Of Action

Dispas Tablet is a combination of two medicines: Dicyclomine and Paracetamol. This medication helps in relieving stomach pain. It works by relaxing the muscles of the stomach and intestine by decreasing the levels of chemical substances in the body that cause pain.

Pharmacokinets

Dicyclomine is an antimuscarinic agent used to treat IBS. Dicyclomine is a muscarinic M1, M3, and M2 receptor antagonist as well as a non-competitive inhibitor of histamine and bradykinin used to treat spasms of the intestines seen in functional bowel disorder and irritable bowel syndrome.It distributes rapidly and evenly throughout most tissues and fluids and has a volume of distribution of approximately 0.9L/kg. 10 to 20% of the drug is bound to red blood cells. Paracetamol is extensively metabolised (predominantly in the liver), the major metabolites being the sulphate and glucuronide conjugates.

Dispas Tablet is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Dispas Tablet.


Breast Feeding Related Information

Dispas Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.

Indications

Dicyclomine+Paracetamol is used in the treatment of abdominal pain. It relieves abdominal pain that is associated with biliary colic, intestinal colic, renal colic and dysmenorrhea.Dicyclomine is an anti-cholinergic which relaxes the muscles in the stomach and gut (intestine). It stops sudden muscle contractions (spasms), thereby relieving cramps, pain, bloating, and discomfort. Paracetamol is an analgesic (pain reliever) which works by blocking the release of certain chemical messengers that cause pain.

Interactions

DICYCLOMINE+PARACETAMOL may interact with cholesterol-lowering drugs (cholestyramine), vomiting medicines (domperidone), anti-HIV drugs (zidovudine), blood thinners (warfarin), corticosteroids, blood pressure-lowering medicines, drugs to lower organ rejection (tacrolimus), anti-cancer or anti-arthritis drugs (methotrexate), urinary alkalinizer (potassium citrate), and potassium supplements.

Typical Dosage

Do not chew, crush or break it. Dispas Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Effects Of Missed Dosage

If you miss a dose of Dispas Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
