Divacon Tablet can be taken with or without food, but take it at the same time to get the most benefit. It should be taken as per your doctor's advice. You will have to take the pill on day one of your menstrual cycle and continue taking it for a whole month. Once the pack gets over, start with a new one. If you experience vomiting within 4 hours of dose intake, take another tablet. In case you missed your dose and you are late by 12 hours in taking the missed dose, use a condom during intercourse for a period of 2 days.

Mechanism Of Action

Divacon Tablet is a combined oral contraceptive pill. It works by preventing the release of egg (ovulation) and affecting sperm movement in the womb to prevent its union with the egg. It also changes the lining of the womb and renders it unsuitable for pregnancy.


Pharmacokinets

Ethinylestradiol has an intravenous clearance of 16.47L/h, and an estimated renal clearance of approximately 2.1L/h. A 30µg oral dose has a clearance of 58.0±19.8L/h and a 1.2mg topical dose has a clearance of 303.5±100.5L/h.The bioavailability of levonorgestrel is approximately 95% (range 85 to 100%). The plasma protein binding of levonorgestrel is about 98%. It is bound 50% to albumin and 48% to SHBG.

Indications

Levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol combination is used to prevent pregnancy. It works by stopping a woman's egg from fully developing each month. The egg can no longer accept a sperm and fertilization (pregnancy) is prevented.

Take your pill at the same time every day to help you remember to take it.

You may experience menstrual irregularities such as spotting or bleeding between menstrual periods or missed periods. Consult your doctor if this persists.

Do not use Divacon Tablet if you are obese, over 35, smoke, on prolonged bed rest or have a history of blood clots.

Stop taking this medicine and inform your doctor immediately if you notice unexplained swelling and pain in your limbs, shortness of breath, chest pain or changes in vision. These could be symptoms of a blood clot in a vein.

It is not advised to be used by patients with a history of high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes mellitus, migraine headache, liver disease or tumors, uterine bleeding, breast cancer, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism (blood clot).

Q. Can Divacon Tablet be taken by a patient who smokes?

Divacon Tablet should not be taken by a person who smokes. Smoking increases the risk of serious side effects like death from heart attack, blood clots or stroke. The risk increases in patients who are obese or over 35 years of age and people who are heavy smokers. Inform your doctor if you smoke, before taking Divacon Tablet.

Q. What if I miss my regular menstrual periods while taking Divacon Tablet?

If you miss your menstrual periods while taking Divacon Tablet, you may be pregnant. Some women may miss periods or have light periods while taking Divacon Tablet even if they are not pregnant. Contact your doctor if you think you are pregnant or have missed one or two periods. This may happen in case you are not taking Divacon Tablet at the same time every day.

Q. Can Divacon Tablet cause bleeding or spotting between the regular menstrual periods?

Yes, Divacon Tablet can cause some unexpected bleeding or spotting, especially during the first three months. Do not stop taking Divacon Tablet because of this. This bleeding or spotting decreases with time. You may have unexpected bleeding if you do not take the pills regularly. Consult your doctor if the spotting continues for more than seven days or if the bleeding is heavy.

Q. What if I vomit after taking Divacon Tablet?

If you vomit within 3-4 hours after taking Divacon Tablet tablet, then it is considered as a missed dose. So, you should take an another dose as soon as you feel well enough.
