Dmentin 5mg Tablet MD is an N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist. Memory loss in Alzheimer’s disease is due to excessive production of glutamate (chemical messenger) in the brain which is mediated by NMDA receptors. Dmentin 5mg Tablet MD works by preventing the action of NMDA receptors and regulates the production of glutamate. involved in the transmission of nerve signals. This is how it prevents memory loss in Alzheimer’s disease.


Pharmacokinets

The pharmacokinetics (PK) of memantine is proportional in a wide dose range and the apparent elimination half-life (T½) is approximately 60–70 h. Memantine is mainly excreted from the kidney, and hardly metabolized in the liver.

Memantine is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe dementia of the Alzheimer's type. The recommended starting dose of NAMENDA is 5 mg (2.5 mL) once daily.
