It is used to treat mild to moderate muscle and joint pains (sprains, strains, bruises, backache, sports injuries) contusions, post-traumatic pain, tendonitis (tennis elbow) and osteoarthritis pain in the knees. Diclofenac sodium is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory with analgesic properties. It inhibits the enzyme, cyclooxygenase (COX), which is an early component of the arachidonic acid cascade, resulting in the reduced formation of prostaglandins, thromboxanes and prostacylin.
