Doximon Tablet is a combination of three medicines: doxylamine, vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) and folic acid, which treats nausea and vomiting associated with pregnancy. Doxylamine is an antihistamine which works by blocking the action of a chemical messenger (histamine), thereby controlling nausea, vomiting, and dizziness.
The bioavailability of doxylamine is 24.7% for oral administration and 70.8% for intranasal administration. The Tmax of doxylamine is 1.5 to 2.5 hours. Its elimination half-life is 10 to 12 hours (range 7 to 13 hours). There is no indication of circadian rhythm in vitamin B6-levels in blood plasma. Pharmacokinetics of vitamin B6 differ fundamentally, depending from the route of administration. The rate constants of elimination of B6-metabolites indicate a tendency of accumulation. Pyridoxine is rapidly metabolized in erythrocytes. An exogenous source of folate is required for nucleoprotein synthesis and the maintenance of normal erythropoiesis. Folic acid, whether given by mouth or parenterally, stimulates the production of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets in persons suffering from certain megaloblastic anemias.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them
