Give Doxt 50mg Tablet to your child orally, either 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Avoid giving milk and other dairy products to your child within a few hours of giving Doxt 50mg Tablet. Also, prevent your child from lying down for at least 1 hour after taking this medicine to prevent irritation in the throat. Prefer giving it at about the same time each day as that will help you remember. The dose will depend on the severity and type of infection, body weight, and age of your child. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of intake, help the child calm down and repeat the same dose, but make sure to never double up the dose if it is time for the next dose.
Doxt 50mg Tablet treats acne, commonly called pimples. It kills the acne-causing bacteria and prevents spots or pimples from appearing.
Doxycycline is metabolized in the liver and gastrointestinal tract through an unknown mechanism and is eliminated via both biliary secretion and glomerular filtration in the kidney (8). Approximately 40% to 45% of doxycycline is recovered in urine as an unchanged drug within 72 h
Doxt 50mg Tablet does not pose serious side effects and is well-tolerated by children. In case the side effects do occur, they’re likely to subside once the body adapts to the medicine. Consult your child’s doctor if these side effects persist or bother your child. The most common side effects include-

Doxycycline is indicated for the treatment of various infections by gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, aerobes and anaerobes, as well other types of bacteria. A complete list of organisms is available in the FDA label and in the "indications" section of this drug entry Label.
If you use other drugs or over the counter products at the same time, the effects of Doxt 50mg Tablet may change. This may increase your risk for side-effects or cause your drug not to work properly. Tell your doctor about all the drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements you are using, so that you doctor can help you prevent or manage drug interactions. Doxt 50mg Tablet may interact with the following drugs and products:
Acetaminophen
Advair diskus
Alcohol
Ascorbic acid
Aspirin
Atorvastatin
Atovaquone
Cetirizine
Cholecalciferol
Ciprofloxacin
Do not chew, crush or break it. Doxt 50mg Tablet is to be taken with food.
Store below 30°C
Do not panic. You can give the missed dose as soon as you remember unless your child’s doctor has advised otherwise. Remember not to double the dose to catch up with the missed one. In case of any confusion, do consult your child’s doctor.
Consult a doctor before taking any medicines.
Maintain a sufficient time gap between meals and medicine intake as giving it before food poses a risk of stomach upset but giving it after food may reduce its absorption.
If your child develops diarrhea as a side effect, encourage them to drink plenty of water.
Give the medicine to your child while sitting or standing, to prevent any throat irritation. Do not let your child lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking Doxt 50mg Tablet.
Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid to your child within 2 hours of taking Doxt 50mg Tablet as these can affect the absorption of the medicine.
Doxt 50mg Tablet may make your child’s skin sensitive to sunlight. Avoid unnecessary or prolonged exposure to sunlight and make sure your child wears protective clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen whenever going out in the sun.
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection.
Discontinue Doxt 50mg Tablet and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Doxt 50mg Tablet is to be taken with food.
Avoid Doxt 50mg Tablet with dairy products such as milk, cheese, curd, butter, paneer and ice cream.
Q. My child is 6 years old. Is it safe to give Doxt 50mg Tablet?
Doxt 50mg Tablet is not safe to be given to children who are less than 8 years of age. It may interfere with the growth of teeth and bones due to its interaction with calcium and can result in tooth discoloration and bone deformities.
Q. Why should you not lie down after taking Doxt 50mg Tablet?
If Doxt 50mg Tablet comes in direct contact with the throat and food pipe, it may cause mucosal irritation or injury. Hence, the child should not lie down immediately after taking Doxt 50mg Tablet and should remain upright for some time.
Q. Can I give Doxt 50mg Tablet to my child who is suffering from diabetes mellitus type 1?
Doxt 50mg Tablet may cause an increase in blood sugar levels. Therefore, it is not safe to give this medicine to children who have diabetes mellitus.
Q. What food items should my child avoid while taking Doxt 50mg Tablet?
Avoid giving Doxt 50mg Tablet with food items such as milk, butter, yogurt, and cheese as well as medicines containing minerals like iron, calcium, and zinc as these foods may hamper Doxt 50mg Tablet’s absorption in the body.
Q. Can other medicines be given at the same time as Doxt 50mg Tablet?
Doxt 50mg Tablet can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Doxt 50mg Tablet. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
Q. Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Doxt 50mg Tablet?
Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.
Q. What should I tell the doctor before giving Doxt 50mg Tablet to my child?
Inform the doctor if your child is suffering from raised pressure in the brain, seizures, photoallergy (allergy from sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, and liver dysfunction. The reason being, Doxt 50mg Tablet may aggravate these conditions and result in complications.
Q. What if I give excess Doxt 50mg Tablet by mistake?
Although an extra dose of Doxt 50mg Tablet will not have any side effects, it may lead to an overdose and cause side effects. So, if you think you have given too much Doxt 50mg Tablet to your child, immediately speak to a doctor.
Q. When should I call my child’s doctor right away?
Call your child’s doctor without a delay if your child develops sudden vision loss, severe headache, seizures, liver dysfunction (paleness, weakness, vomiting), hyperpigmentation, tooth discoloration, chest pain, oral thrush, and bloody diarrhea (superinfection).
Q. What should I do if my child shows no improvement even after taking Doxt 50mg Tablet for the prescribed duration?
Ineffective treatment with Doxt 50mg Tablet could mean that the medicine is not able to act against the infection-causing bacteria. In such a case, visit your child’s doctor who may prescribe some other antibiotic, that has a more specific action toward the infection-causing bacteria.
