Give Elpred Syrup to your child with food. The usually prescribed frequency is once daily, preferably in the morning after breakfast. The dose of this medication will depend on your child’s clinical condition, body weight, age, and treatment response. Use Elpred Syrup only for the recommended duration of time. Do not prolong its use, more than recommended as that may lead to increased side effects. Also, do not stop giving this medicine suddenly. Sudden withdrawal may affect the ongoing treatment and the child may exhibit withdrawal symptoms such as dizziness, vomiting, and thirst. The dose needs to be gradually reduced before stopping it completely. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking Elpred Syrup, let the child calm down, and then give the same dose again.

Mechanism Of Action

Elpred Syrup is a steroid medicine. It decreases the formation of chemical substances like prostaglandins, leukotrienes, and interleukins which are considered responsible for inflammation, and allergy. It also suppresses the immune system and stops the immune mechanisms from causing any self-damage to the body.


Pharmacokinets

 Prednisone is absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and has a half life of 2–3 hours. it has a volume of distribution of 0.4–1 L/kg. The drug is cleared by hepatic metabolism using cytochrome P450 enzymes.

Side Effects

Elpred Syrup does not pose serious side effects and is well-tolerated by children. In case the side effects do occur, they’re likely to subside once the body adapts to the medicine. Contra Indications

Effects Of Missed Dosage

Do not panic. Unless your child’s doctor has advised a specific regime for your child, give the missed dose as soon as you remember it. Skip the missed dose if it is almost the time for the next dose. Do not give a double dose to catch up and follow the prescribed dosing schedule.

Delay vaccination while your child is taking Elpred Syrup as it may not work well. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given after consulting a doctor.

Do not stop the medicine abruptly. Seek the doctor’s guidance to taper the dose gradually as sudden withdrawal may result in a steroid withdrawal syndrome.
