Etisec Sachet is also used in the treatment of dental infections, leg ulcers, and pressure sores. This medicine may be taken with or without food. However, it should be taken at the same time each day to get the most benefit. The amount you are advised will depend on what you are being treated for and how bad it is, but you should take this antibiotic exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Your symptoms may get better after a short time but do not stop taking it until you have finished a full course of treatment, even if you feel well. If you stop taking it early, some bacteria may survive, and the infection may come back. Do not drink any alcohol while taking this medicine and for some days after stopping it. Otherwise, you may get unpleasant side effects like nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain.
The most common side effects of this medicine include gastrointestinal disturbances, nausea, abdominal pain, dry mouth, metallic taste, glossitis, and stomatitis. These are usually mild but let your doctor know if they bother you or last more than a few days. You can try using sugarless candies or lozenges to overcome any dryness or metallic taste in the mouth.
Before using this medicine, inform your doctor if you are allergic to any medicine or have any kidney or liver problems or any disease of the nervous system. Your doctor may change the dose or prescribe a different medicine. This medicine should not be taken if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless it is absolutely necessary and prescribed by your doctor.
Etisec Sachet is an antibiotic. It kills the bacteria and other microorganisms that cause infections by damaging their DNA.
Secnidazole is well absorbed orally (almost 100%) in healthy individuals, reaching a peak plasma level of 36 to 46 μg/mL in 1.5 to 3 hours after a single dose of 2 g.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Etisec Sachet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.
Consuming alcohol while taking Etisec Sachet may cause symptoms such as flushing, increased heart beat, nausea, thirst, chest pain and low blood pressure (Disulfiram reaction).
Etisec Sachet should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should be held until the treatment of the mother is completed and the drug is eliminated from her body.
Secnidazole is indicated for treating trichomoniasis and bacterial vaginosis in patients 12 years of age and older. In other countries, it is also available as a combination product with other antibacterial drugs, such as itraconazole.
Avoid alcoholic beverages and preparations containing ethanol or propylene glycol during secnidazole therapy and for 2 days after treatment is stopped.

If you miss a dose of Etisec Sachet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Q. What if I forget to take a dose of Etisec Sachet?
If you forget a dose of Etisec Sachet, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next scheduled dose in the prescribed time. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one as this may increase the chances of developing side effects.
Q. Why is it harmful to drink alcohol while using Etisec Sachet?
Alcohol should be strictly avoided while taking Etisec Sachet.Moreover, you should avoid alcohol even after 3 days of finishing the complete course. Drinking alcohol can cause an unpleasant reaction (Disulfiram reaction) with symptoms such as stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, headache, flushing or redness of the face.
