Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Fenofibrate, administered alone or added to metformin, alleviated diabetic dyslipidemia–induced changes in plasma hsCRP, fibrinogen, and PAI-1 and in monocyte cytokine release. In turn, metformin or lifestyle intervention improved mainly glucose and lipid metabolism

Pharmacokinets

After absorption, fenofibrate is mainly excreted in the urine in the form of metabolites, primarily fenofibric acid and fenofibric acid glucuronide. After administration of radiolabeled fenofibrate, approximately 60% of the dose appeared in the urine and 25% was excreted in the feces

Metformin is rapidly distributed following absorption and does not bind to plasma proteins. No metabolites or conjugates of metformin have been identified. The absence of liver metabolism clearly differentiates the pharmacokinetics of metformin from that of other biguanides, such as phenformin.
