Gefemax 1000 mg/125 mg Injection contains two different medicines, Cefepime and Tazobactum, that work together to kill the bacteria that cause infections. Cefipime works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Tazobactum reduces resistance and enhances the activity of Cefipime against bacteria.

Pharmacokinets

The pharmacokinetics of cefepime are linear over the range of 500 mg to 2 g intramuscularly and do not vary with respect to treatment duration. The average steady-state volume of distribution of cefepime is 18 (±2) L.Within 30 min of infusion,tazobactam achieves 16-85% of plasma concentrations in skin, muscle, lung, gallbladder, and intestinal mucosa. Plasma and tissue levels remain above the MIC90s of major pathogens for 2 h post administration.

Cefepime and tazobactam is used parenterally for the treatment of moderate to severe infections caused by or suspected of being caused by susceptible beta-Iactamases producing bacteria when cefepime alone would be ineffective. Complicated intra-abdominal infections.

Interactions

CEFEPIME+TAZOBACTAM may interact with aminoglycoside antibiotics (streptomycin, neomycin, and gentamicin) as it may cause severe nephrotoxicity (damage to the kidney). It may also interact with a medicine used to treat gout (probenecid).
