Gibtulio 10mg Tablet can be taken with or without food at any time of day but you should try to take it at the same time every day. The dose will be decided by your doctor. Do not stop taking it without asking your doctor. If you do, your blood sugar levels may increase and put you at risk of serious complications like kidney damage and blindness. This medicine is only part of a treatment program that should include a healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight reduction as advised by your doctor.
The most common side effects of this medicine include nausea, frequent urge to urinate, increased thirst, urinary tract infections, and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels). It may cause the body to lose too much water. Hence, drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated and to overcome the medicine side effects. Some people may develop fungal infections in the genital area. Maintaining good hygiene can help prevent this.
Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have any kidney or liver problems or a urinary tract infection or if you are on water pills (diuretics). Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor before taking it. Avoid excessive alcohol intake while taking it as this may increase the risk of developing some side effects. Empagliflozin in Gibtulio tablet acts by increasing the total glucose excreted from the body. It does this by inhibiting a transporter present in parts of the kidney that absorbs the glucose back into the blood. Hence, often patients' urine tests positive for glucose after taking this medication. It also reduces the threshold of the kidneys to excrete glucose levels. By this action, it is able to reduce the fasting as well as post-meal glucose levels in the blood. It acts on blood pressure likely through the reduced sodium absorption in blood and by increased excretion through urine.
Empagliflozin works by inhibiting the sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT-2) found in the proximal tubules in the kidneys. Through SGLT2 inhibition, empagliflozin reduces renal reabsorption of glucose and increases urinary excretion of glucose.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Empagliflozin is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adult patients with type 2 diabetes. It is also indicated to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adult patients with both type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease.
EMPAGLIFLOZIN may interact with insulin, high blood pressure-lowering pills (hydrochlorothiazide, amlodipine), water pills/diuretics (furosemide), antibiotics used for eye infections (gatifloxacin), anti-hypertensive (metoprolol), steroids (prednisolone), thyroid hormones etc. So, tell your doctor if you are using these drugs before taking the EMPAGLIFLOZIN.
Do not chew, crush or break it. Gibtulio 10mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Store below 30°C
If you miss a dose of Gibtulio 10mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Q. I am taking furosemide for high blood pressure, can I take Gibtulio 10mg Tablet with it?
Gibtulio 10mg Tablet may cause excessive fluid loss or you may urinate more, resulting in dehydration. Since furosemide also causes fluid loss, taking it with Gibtulio 10mg Tablet, you may experience unusual thirst, lightheadedness or dizziness upon standing and fainting or loss of consciousness. Inform your doctor about furosemide before starting Gibtulio 10mg Tablet.
Q. If I forget to take Gibtulio 10mg Tablet, what should I do?
If you have forgotten to take Gibtulio 10mg Tablet and next dose is due after 12 hours, take it as soon as you remember and take the next dose at usual time. If it is less than 12 hours until your next dose, skip the missed dose. Then take your next dose at the usual time. Do not take a double dose of Gibtulio 10mg Tablet to make up for a forgotten dose.
