Gibtulio Met 12.5mg/500mg Tablet should be taken with food at any time of day but you should try to take it at the same time every day. The dose will be decided by your doctor. Don’t stop taking it without asking your doctor. If you do, your blood sugar levels may increase and put you at risk of serious complications like kidney damage and blindness. This medicine is only part of a treatment program that should include a healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight reduction as advised by your doctor.
The most common side effects of this medicine include taste changes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, urinary tract infection, and yeast infections. Drinking plenty of fluids while using it will help prevent dehydration. Some people may develop fungal infections in the genital area. Maintaining good hygiene can help prevent this.
Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have any kidney or liver problems or a urinary tract infection or if you are on water pills (diuretics). Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor before taking it. Avoid excessive alcohol intake while taking it as this may increase the risk of developing some side effects. Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly while taking this medicine.
Gibtulio Met 12.5mg/500mg Tablet is a combination of two antidiabetic medicines: Empagliflozin and Metformin. Empagliflozin works by removing excess glucose from your body through urine. Metformin works by lowering glucose production in the liver, delaying glucose absorption from intestines and increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin. Together, they lower blood glucose more effectively.
Empagliflozin works by inhibiting the sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT-2) found in the proximal tubules in the kidneys. Through SGLT2 inhibition, empagliflozin reduces renal reabsorption of glucose and increases urinary excretion of glucose.Metformin is rapidly distributed following absorption and does not bind to plasma proteins. No metabolites or conjugates of metformin have been identified. The absence of liver metabolism clearly differentiates the pharmacokinetics of metformin from that of other biguanides, such as phenformin.

Gibtulio Met 12.5mg/500mg Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.

Empagliflozin and metformin combination is used with proper diet and exercise to treat high blood sugar levels caused by type 2 diabetes. It is also used to lower the risk of death in patients with type 2 diabetes and heart or blood vessel disease.
EMPAGLIFLOZIN+METFORMIN may interact with Steroid tablets (e.g. prednisolone), diuretic medications (e.g. furosemide), chest pain medications (e.g. nitrates), muscle relaxants (baclofen), medicines that cause low blood sugar (e.g. insulin, gliclazide). And also, inform all your medical conditions, ongoing therapies to your doctor before prescribing this medication. By considering these, your doctor may check the drug interactions before prescribing this medication.
Do not chew, crush or break it. Gibtulio Met 12.5mg/500mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Store below 30°C
If you miss a dose of Gibtulio Met 12.5mg/500mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

You have been prescribed this combination medicine as it can control blood sugar better than metformin alone.
It also reduces the risk of heart attack, heart failure or other cardiovascular events.
You should continue to exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet, and take your other diabetes medicines (if prescribed) along with Gibtulio Met 12.5mg/500mg Tablet.
Take it with food to lower your chance of having an upset stomach.
Practice good genital hygiene to prevent yeast or urinary tract infections
It may cause your body to lose too much fluid (dehydration) or you to urinate more often. Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.
It can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol or if you delay or miss a meal. Monitor your blood sugar level regularly.
Always carry some sugary food or fruit juice with you in case you experience hypoglycemia symptoms such as cold sweats, cool pale skin, tremor, and anxious feeling.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Gibtulio Met 12.5mg/500mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
