You must not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Immediately stop using Gramoneg 500Mg Tablet and inform your doctor if you get a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or have difficulty in breathing.


Consult your doctor if you find blood in the stool or if you feel pain in your tendons, numbness, or tingling sensations. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding must consult the doctor before consuming this drug.


Symptoms of overdose include nausea, vomiting, toxic psychosis, convulsions, increased intracranial pressure, metabolic acidosis; Severe overdose, intracranial hypertension, increased pressure, and seizures have occurred.


Avoid undue exposure to direct sunlight or use a sunscreen; take 1 hour before meals, but can take with food to decrease GI upset, finish all medication, do not skip doses; if persistent cough occurs, notify the physician.

Mechanism Of Action

Being an antibiotic, it works by stopping the action of a bacterial enzyme called DNA-gyrase. This prevents bacterial cells from dividing and repairing, thereby killing them. This drug inhibits DNA polymerization in late stages of chromosomal replication.

Pharmacokinets

Nalidixic acid is metabolized by hydroxylation to 7-hydroxymethylnalidixic acid[[ and then by oxidation to 7-carboxynalidixic acid. [[ The half-lives of the two elimination phases of nalidixic acid are 0.75 and 2.5 h.

Contra Indications

Nalidixic acid is contraindicated in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to any quinolone antibiotic. Nalidixic acid should not be used for patients with porphyria.

Indications

If you are allergic to NALIDIXIC ACID or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you have fits, porphyria (disorder in the formation of red blood pigment), kidney or liver problems, inform your doctor before taking NALIDIXIC ACID. If you are pregnant or planning for pregnancy, please inform your doctor before taking NALIDIXIC ACID. Avoid taking NALIDIXIC ACID if you are breastfeeding as it may be excreted in breastmilk and harm the baby. You are recommended to drink plenty of water to flush out the bacteria. You are recommended to complete the full course of NALIDIXIC ACID as prescribed by your doctor for effective results. You are advised to maintain a time gap of 2 hours between taking NALIDIXIC ACID and mineral supplements, vitamins with minerals or iron, sucralfate, didanosine, or antacids containing magnesium, calcium, and aluminium.

Drug-Drug Interactions: NALIDIXIC ACID may interact with a blood thinner (warfarin), bronchodilator (theophylline), antibiotics (tetracycline, chloramphenicol, nitrofurantoin), high uric acid levels lowering medicine (probenecid), anticancer drug (melphalan), immunosuppressant (cyclosporine).

Drug-Food Interactions: NALIDIXIC ACID may interact with caffeine. Therefore, avoid caffeine intake with NALIDIXIC ACID as it may increase the effects of caffeine.

Drug-Disease Interactions: If you have fits, porphyria (disorder in the formation of red blood pigment), liver or kidney problems, inform your doctor before taking NALIDIXIC ACID.
