Homatropine Eye Drop is used to dilate or enlarge the pupil of the eye so that the doctor can examine the back of the eyeball. It may also be used to reduce pain in certain eye conditions.

Homatropine is an anticholinergic agent used to dilate the pupil, treat inflammation of the uveal tract, and suppress a cough. Homatropine is an anticholinergic drug that acts as an antagonist at muscarinic acetylcholine receptors.

Contra Indications

To reduce the amount of Homatropine Eye Drop that reaches the breastmilk, place pressure over the corner of the eye for 1 minute or more, then remove the excess solution with an absorbent tissue.

Interactions

Drug-drug interactions: HOMATROPINE may have an interaction with certain antiarrhythmic drugs (quinidine), antihistamines (diphenhydramine, meclizine), antispasmodics (dicyclomine), antiparkinson disease (isocarboxazid, linezolid), anti-depressants (amitriptyline).

Effects Of Missed Dosage

If you miss a dose of Homatropine Eye Drop, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Expert Advice

It is also used to relieve eye inflammation (redness and swelling) and infection.

Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute, immediately after instilling the drop.

Wait for at least 5-10 minutes before delivering the next medication in the same eye to avoid dilution.

Stinging sensation may occur for 1-2 mins. Notify your doctor if it persists for longer.

Make sure to use within 4 weeks of opening the bottle.
