Hytrin 2 Tablet may be prescribed alone or in combination with other medicines. It can be taken with or without food. The dose will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. Follow the advice of your doctor on what is right for you. You need to use this medicine regularly to get the most benefit from it so keep taking it even if you feel well. High blood pressure does not usually have symptoms. If you stop taking it, your blood pressure may rise and put you at risk of heart attack or stroke. You may need to take it for the rest of your life.


The most common side effects of this medicine include dizziness, drowsiness, headache, nausea, and unusual beating of the heart (palpitations). Most side effects disappear when you get used to the medicine. If they bother you or won’t go away, talk to your doctor. To lower the chance of dizziness, rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down. It may also cause your blood pressure to go too low. Some side effects may be serious and need urgent medical attention. Your doctor may be able to help with ways of preventing or reducing side effects.


If you are pregnant, thinking about becoming pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your doctor before using this medicine. Also talk to your doctor before taking it if have heart failure, liver disease, or kidney disease and if you are having eye surgery for a cataract. Your blood pressure will need to be checked regularly while using this medicine.

Mechanism Of Action

Hytrin 2 Tablet is an alpha-blocker. It lowers blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels. It also relaxes the muscles around the bladder exit and prostate, which makes it easier to urinate.

Pharmacokinets

Terazosin undergoes extensive hepatic metabolism, and the major route of elimination is via the biliary tract. Small amounts of terazosin are excreted in the urine. Plasma and renal clearances are 80 and 10 ml per minute, respectively. The mean beta-phase half-life is approximately 12 hours.

Contra Indications

Product And Alcohol Interaction

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Hytrin 2 Tablet.

Breast Feeding Related Information

Hytrin 2 Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.

Indications

Terazosin is used in men to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH), which include difficulty urinating (hesitation, dribbling, weak stream, and incomplete bladder emptying), painful urination, and urinary frequency and urgency.

Interactions

Drug-Drug Interaction: TERAZOSIN may interact with anti-cancer medications (aldesleukin), anti-hypertensive medications (benazepril, metoprolol, ramipril, hydrochlorothiazide), muscle spasm medication (baclofen), antiparkinson medication (levodopa, methyldopa), anti-epilepsy medicines (carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone), medicines to treat erectile dysfunction (sildenafil, tadalafil).

Drug-Food Interaction: TERAZOSIN should be avoided with high fat or cholesterol food, too much salt in your diet (pickles, extra salt on salad).

Drug-Disease Interaction: TERAZOSIN should not be given to patients with cardiogenic shock (when the heart fails to pump required blood to the body), heart valve problem (stenosis), low blood pressure (hypotension), liver disease, kidney disease or heart failure.

You have been prescribed Hytrin 2 Tablet for the treatment of high blood pressure.

It may cause sudden drop in your blood pressure, especially when you first start taking this medicine. To lower the chance of feeling dizzy or passing out, rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down.

Do not consume alcohol while taking Hytrin 2 Tablet as it may enhance the blood pressure lowering effect of this medicine causing increased dizziness.

Be cautious while driving or doing anything that requires concentration as it can cause dizziness and sleepiness.

Inform your doctor that you are taking Hytrin 2 Tablet if you are scheduled for a cataract surgery.

It may also be used for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
