Isonij 300mg Tablet should be used in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. It is to be taken on an empty stomach. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping it early can result in treatment failure and increase the side effects too. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. Simply take the next dose as planned.
Some common side effects of this medicine include tingling and numbness of feet and hand (peripheral neuropathy). Inform your doctor if you notice signs of jaundice, i.e., yellowing of eyes or skin, dark urine, stomach pain, or joint pain. You may also develop hepatitis (viral infection of the liver) or increased liver enzymes as side effects of this medicine. Please consult your doctor, as these side effects require medical attention and need dose modification.
Your doctor may monitor your liver function while on treatment with this medicine. Avoid drinking alcohol as this may have additional adverse effects on the liver. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before using this medicine.
Isonij 300mg Tablet is an antibiotic. It works by killing the bacteria that causes tuberculosis.
A combination of pharmacogenetic and pharmacokinetic studies have identified polymorphisms within enzymes involved in INH metabolism and detoxification. These essential metabolic enzymes include N-acetyltransferase 2, Cytochrome P450 2E1, and glutathione S transferases.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Isoniazid is contraindicated in patients who develop severe hypersensitivity reactions, including drug- induced hepatitis; previous isoniazid-associated hepatic injury; severe adverse reactions to isoniazid such as drug fever, chills, arthritis; and acute liver disease of any etiology.
Isonij 300mg Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.
Consuming alcohol while taking Isonij 300mg Tablet may cause symptoms such as flushing, increased heart beat, nausea, thirst, chest pain and low blood pressure (Disulfiram reaction).
Isonij 300mg Tablet is safe to use during breastfeeding. Human studies suggest that the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in a significant amount and is not harmful to the baby.
Isoniazid is used with other medications to treat active tuberculosis (TB) infections. It is also used alone to prevent active TB infections in people who may be infected with the bacteria (people with positive TB skin test). Isoniazid is an antibiotic and works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
Drug-Drug Interaction: ISONIAZID may have interaction with anticonvulsants (carbamazepine, phenobarbital, valproic acid, phenytoin), medicines that help to sleep (flurazepam, midazolam, diazepam, triazolam), antipsychotics (haloperidol, chlorpromazine), medicines used to prevent blood clots (warfarin, phenindione), bronchodilator (theophylline), anti-arrhythmic drug (procainamide), antifungal (ketoconazole), corticosteroids (prednisolone), painkiller (paracetamol), opioids (alfentanil) and anaesthetic (enflurane).
Drug- Food Interaction: Avoid alcohol consumption with ISONIAZID as it may increase the risk of liver damage. Avoid foods and drinks containing histamine or tyramine such as cured meat, matured cheese, soya, tuna, salmon, mackerel, wine, and beer while taking ISONIAZID as they might cause interaction.
Drug-Disease Interaction: If you have fits, diabetes, HIV infection, malnutrition, kidney or liver problems or have suffered from psychosis (mental disturbances), inform your doctor before taking ISONIAZID.

If you miss a dose of Isonij 300mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

It is best taken on an empty stomach.
You must also take a vitamin B6 supplement while on Isonij 300mg Tablet.
Tell your doctor immediately if you experience vision changes, loss of appetite, tiredness, stomach pain, nausea or vomiting, yellow skin or eyes or dark-colored urine.

Avoid Isonij 300mg Tablet with tyramine-rich food such as cheese, smoked fish, meats and some types of beer.
