Isordil 5 Sublingual tablet should be taken as directed by a doctor and in prescribed doses. It is important not to stop taking the medicine on its own, as abrupt stopping may worsen health. Alcohol should be avoided, as their combination may cause a severe drop in blood pressure.
Common side effects include headache, drowsiness, dizziness and tiredness. If side effects persist, consult a doctor or a nearby clinic. Anzidin 5mg tablet, Isonit 5mg tablet and Sorbiman 5mg tablet are a few more medicines that also include isosorbide dinitrate as their main component.
Angina is characterised by severe chest pain. This pain occurs as the heart muscles are not receiving an adequate supply of blood and oxygen. Isordil 5 tablet dilates the blood vessels in the heart. This makes the flow of blood and oxygen better to the heart muscles. Dilation of the blood vessel decreases the pumping strain of the heart.
Once absorbed, the volume of distribution of isosorbide dinitrate is 2 to 4 L/kg, and this volume is cleared at the rate of 2 to 4 L/min, so ISDN's half-life in serum is about an hour. Since the clearance exceeds hepatic blood flow, considerable extra hepatic metabolism must also occur.

There is limited information about the effects of Isordil 5 tablet in human pregnancy. This medicine should be used during pregnancy only if it is needed and advantage overweighs the risk. You should consult your doctor if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a child before starting this medicine.
You should avoid consuming alcohol while taking Isordil 5 tablet, as it may increase the chance of sharp blood pressure fall which can lead to dizziness, lightheadedness or may worsen the side effects of this medicine.
It is unknown if Isordil 5 tablet passes into human milk, hence you should not breastfeed while taking this medicine. You should consult your doctor before using this medicine during breastfeeding.
FDA Approved Indications for Isosorbide Dinitrate
Prevention or treatment of angina pectoris resulting from coronary artery disease - however, it is not recommended for use once the anginal episode has started because the onset of action is not sufficiently rapid enough to abort an acute anginal event.
Drug-Drug interactions: ISOSORBIDE DINITRATE should not be used with organic nitrate drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction (sildenafil, vardenafil, tadalafil, and avanafil) and medicine used to treat pulmonary hypertension (riociguat), medicines to treat high blood pressure (norepinephrine), phenothiazines, and antiallergic medications.
Drug-Food interactions: Intake of foods containing high amounts of sodium should be reduced.
Drug-Disease interactions: ISOSORBIDE DINITRATE use is contraindicated in conditions such as acute myocardial infarction or congestive heart failure, severe hypotension (low blood pressure), severe anemia, bleeding in the brain, and severe dehydration.

Put Isordil mouth dissolving tablet under your tongue and let the medicine dissolve locally. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
Store Isordil 5 tablet at room temperature in a clean and dry place, protected from moisture, sunlight and heat.
Keep this medicine away from children and pets.
Missing a dose of Isordil 5 tablet may reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. If you missed any dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one. Always carry your medicines if you are travelling.
Overdosage of Isordil 5 tablet may cause sudden and sharp lowering of blood pressure and related symptoms, urgent treatment is required. If you experience any of the symptoms or think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.
You have an increase in eye pressure (glaucoma), bleeding problem, thyroid hormone disturbance, liver or kidney problem.
You have problems with your heart or may have damaged the heart.
You have a deficiency of glucose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD).
You have hypertension and are taking anti-hypertensive medicines, caution is needed as severe fall in blood pressure can occur.
You have a history of head injury or you are suffering from psychiatric illness.
You are malnourished or have a sudden drop in body temperature.
Do not use any medicines for erectile dysfunction like Sildenafil, Tadalafil when you are using Isordil 5 tablets as it can cause a severe fall in blood pressure which can be life-threatening.
Never stop this medicine abruptly, if you are facing any issues, talk to your doctor as he/she may gradually decrease the dose before stopping.
Always take Isordil 5 tablets strictly as per the advice of your doctor.
