This medicine works by inhibiting the growth and development of the malarial parasite present in the blood.
These have shown in healthy volunteers that mefloquine is absorbed with a half-life of 1 to 4 hours and a time to peak concentration of 7 to 24 hours (median 16.7 hours).

Mefloquine should not be prescribed for prophylaxis in patients with active depression, a recent history of depression, generalized anxiety disorder, psychosis, schizophrenia or other major psychiatric disorders, or with a history of convulsions.
This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary and the benefits outweigh the risks involved.

Mefloquine is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate cases of malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax. It is effective against chloroquine-resistant forms of Plasmodium falciparum.
Drug-Drug Interaction: MEFLOQUINE may interact with other antimalarial medicines (chloroquine, quinidine, quinine), antidepressants (amitriptyline), antipsychotics (phenothiazine), medicines for fits/epilepsy (carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, valproate), antifungal (ketoconazole), antibiotics (rifampicin, penicillins, cephalosporins), medicines for HIV infections (efavirenz), painkiller (tramadol), blood thinner (warfarin).

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost the time for the next scheduled dose, then the missed dose can be skipped.
Contact your doctor immediately if an overdose with this medicine is suspected. Symptoms may include dizziness, change in pulse, fall in blood pressure, and convulsions.
Take Larimef 250 mg Tablet as advised by your doctor. Do not take in larger amounts than advised. It is advised to take this medicine at the same time every day. Do not stop taking the medicine without consulting your doctor. Ensure that the course of treatment is completed to prevent the spread of infection. Consult the doctor if you experience any undesirable effects
