Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

LEVESAM 1GM TABLET acts on the brain and modify the release of certain nerve chemicals. Brain cells communicate with each other using electrical signals and chemicals. When there is any disturbance in this communication, seizure (fits) happens. Levetiracetam combines with a protein (SV2A) present in central nervous system and inhibits the release of abnormal nerve chemicals (neurotransmitters). This does not affect the normal brain communication.

Pharmacokinets

Food does not affect the extent of absorption of levetiracetam but it decreases Cmax by 20% and delays Tmax by 1.5 hours. The pharmacokinetics of levetiracetam are linear over the dose range of 500 5000 mg. Steady state is achieved after 2 days of multiple twice-daily dosing.
