Lucentis Injection is administered directly into the eyeball by an eye specialist. You should not self administer this medicine at home. The common side effects include conjunctival hemorrhage, eye pain, eye floaters, increased intraocular pressure, and eye inflammation.
However, if you experience these side effects for a longer duration or any other symptoms which you think may be due to this medicine, please inform your doctor. It is not advised to drive after administration of this injection as it may cause blurring of vision.
Lucentis Injection is an anti-angiogenic medication. It works by blocking a protein called vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). This stops the growth and leakage of abnormal blood vessels in the eye(s) that may cause vision loss.
Ranibizumab binds to the receptor-binding site on VEGF-A, which inhibits the binding of VEGF molecules to their receptors on the surface of endothelial cells. 3,6 Ranibizumab blocks all isoforms of VEGF-A.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Contraindications include ocular or periocular infections and hypersensitivity. [22] Patients who have an ocular infection, who recently underwent ocular surgery, or have increased intraocular pressures should avoid ranibizumab use.
Lucentis Injection may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.
It is not known whether it is safe to consume alcohol with Lucentis Injection. Please consult your doctor.
Lucentis Injection is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.

Lucentis Injection should not be taken by individuals who are allergic to the medication or have an active eye infection.
Q. What is the duration of treatment for Lucentis Injection?
Lucentis Injection is recommended to be initially administered by intravitreal injection (into the eye) once a month (approximately 28 days) for up to 3 months.
Q. What precautions should I take after taking Lucentis Injection?
After taking Lucentis Injection:<br>a. You should not wash your face and hair or shower for 48 hours<br>b. Avoid rubbing your eyes<br>c. Avoid swimming for a week. Consult your doctor in case of any doubts<br>d. Do not wear contact lenses immediately after injection. You may wear spectacles instead<br>e. Give complete rest to your eyes and do not strain by looking at television, mobile phones, or computer screens for 1-2 days.
