Lupidium Tablet is taken with or without food in a dose and duration as advised by the doctor. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen. Let your doctor know about all other medications you are taking as some may affect, or be affected by this medicine.
The most common side effects are headache, nausea, and constipation. Most of these are temporary and usually resolve with time. Contact your doctor straight away if you are at all concerned about any of these side effects. It may also cause dizziness, so do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine as it can worsen your sleepiness.
Diarrhea can cause water loss and electrolyte imbalance, so drink plenty of fluids to help keep yourself hydrated. It is important to avoid this medicine if you have blood in your stool or if you are severely constipated.
This medicine works by reducing the movement of food and water from the stomach and intestine.
Loperamide increases the tone of the anal sphincter, thereby reducing incontinence and urgency. Pharmacodynamics Loperamide prolongs the transit time of the intestinal contents. It reduces daily fecal volume, increases the viscosity and bulk density, and diminishes the loss of fluid and electrolytes.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Hypersensitivity to Lupidium Tablet is a contraindication. In addition, Lupidium Tablet should not be used if you have the following conditions:
Acute infective diarrhoea
Allergic reactions

Children below the age of 4 years

Lupidium Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.
Lupidium Tablet may cause excessive drowsiness with alcohol.
Lupidium Tablet is safe to use during breastfeeding. Human studies suggest that the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in a significant amount and is not harmful to the baby.

The FDA approved loperamide for the treatment of various forms of diarrhea, including traveler's diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome associated with chronic diarrhea, acute nonspecific diarrhea in patients two years of age and older, and is indicated for reducing ileostomy output.
If you use other drugs or over the counter products at the same time, the effects of Lupidium Tablet may change. This may increase your risk for side-effects or cause your drug not to work properly. Tell your doctor about all the drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements you are using, so that you doctor can help you prevent or manage drug interactions. Lupidium Tablet may interact with the following drugs and products:
Aripiprazole
Cetirizine
Chlorpheniramine
Clemastine
Diphenhydramine
Hyoscyamine
Do not chew, crush or break it. Lupidium Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Store below 30°C
If you miss a dose of Lupidium Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Lupidium Tablet may be taken simultaneously with antibiotics, paracetamol, ibuprofen, omiprazole or ciprofloxacin. Lupidium Tablet might interact with desmopressin, ritonavir, quinidine or cotrimoxazole. Please consult your doctor before use
Q. Does Lupidium Tablet help in opiate withdrawal?
Lupidium Tablet is used in higher doses as a part of opiate withdrawal process. However, do consult your doctor regarding the same.
Q. Is Lupidium Tablet addictive?
No, Lupidium Tablet is a safe and non-addictive anti-diarrheal drug.
Q. Can Lupidium Tablet be used for stomach cramps, nausea, stomach flu, rota virus diarrhea and gas?
Lupidium Tablet may benefit few cases of stomach cramps or nausea associated with diarrhea. It is sometimes used for stomach flu, rota virus diarrhea. It is not used for gas. Please consult your doctor before taking the drug.
Q. Can I take Lupidium Tablet with cimetidine?
Cimetidine can decrease the metabolism of Lupidium Tablet, increase its blood levels and hence, increase its effects and side effects. Your dose of Lupidium Tablet may needs to be decreased. Consult your doctor prior to taking both the drugs together.
