Lupigyl IV 500mg Infusion helps prevent an infection after surgery. It is also used in the treatment of dental infections, leg ulcers, and pressure sores. This injection is administered under the supervision of a healthcare professional. It should be taken at the same time each day to get the most benefit. Your symptoms may get better after a short time but do not stop taking it until you have finished a full course of treatment, even if you feel well. If you stop taking it early, some bacteria may survive, and the infection may come back. Do not drink any alcohol while taking this medicine, and for a few days after stopping it. Otherwise, you may get unpleasant side effects like nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain.
The most common side effects of this medicine are muscle pain (myalgia), dryness in the mouth, swelling and heaviness of tongue (glossitis), and painful swelling and sores in the mouth (stomatitis). These are usually mild but let your doctor know if they bother you or last more than a few days. You can try using sugarless candies or lozenges to overcome any dryness or metallic taste in the mouth.
Before using this medicine, inform your doctor if you are allergic to any medicine or have any kidney or liver problems or any disease of the nervous system. This medicine should not be taken if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless it is absolutely necessary and prescribed by your doctor. It may cause unusual results with certain medical tests. Therefore, tell any doctor who treats you that you are using this medicine.
Lupigyl IV 500mg Infusion is an antibiotic. It kills the bacteria and other microorganisms that cause infections by damaging their DNA.
Metronidazole is extensively metabolised by the liver to 5 metabolites. The hydroxy metabolite has biological activity of 30 to 65% and a longer elimination half-life than the parent compound.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Lupigyl IV 500mg Infusion is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
Consuming alcohol while taking Lupigyl IV 500mg Infusion may cause symptoms such as flushing, increased heart beat, nausea, thirst, chest pain and low blood pressure (Disulfiram reaction).
Lupigyl IV 500mg Infusion should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should be held until the treatment of the mother is completed and the drug is eliminated from her body.
If a single dose of Lupigyl IV 500mg Infusion is used, it is recommended to hold breastfeeding for 12-24 hours to allow the removal of the drug.

Metronidazole is one of the mainstay drugs for the treatment of anaerobic bacterial infections, protozoal infections, and microaerophilic bacterial infections. It is cytotoxic to facultative anaerobic microorganisms.
Some products that may interact with this drug include: alcohol-containing products (such as cough and cold syrups, aftershave), products containing propylene glycol, lopinavir/ritonavir solution, lithium.

If you miss a dose of Lupigyl IV 500mg Infusion, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

It may cause side effects like nausea, stomach upset, and a metallic taste in the mouth.
Do not drink alcohol during or for 2-3 days after treatment with this medicine. You may develop nausea, vomiting, flushing and headache.
Inform your doctor if you have liver disease. Your dose may need to be adjusted in severe liver disease.

No, avoid drinking alcohol while taking Lupigyl IV 500mg Infusion. Moreover, you should avoid alcohol even after 3 days of finishing the complete course. Drinking alcohol can cause an unpleasant reaction (Disulfiram like reaction) with symptoms such as stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, headache, flushing or redness of the face.
Q. Can the use of Lupigyl IV 500mg Infusion cause metallic taste?
Yes, Lupigyl IV 500mg Infusion may cause a temporary metallic taste. This metallic taste can be reduced by staying hydrated, brushing teeth after the meals and chewing sugar-free gum or mints.
Q. What if I take more than the recommended dose of Lupigyl IV 500mg Infusion?
If you have taken Lupigyl IV 500mg Infusion in excess (more than the recommended dose), immediately contact your doctor or report to the nearest hospital. Overdose of Lupigyl IV 500mg Infusion may cause loss of appetite, metallic taste, headache, dizziness, insomnia or drowsiness.
Q. What if there is no improvement after using Lupigyl IV 500mg Infusion?
Inform your doctor if you did not feel better even after completing the full course of treatment. Also, inform him/her if your symptoms are getting worse while using this medicine.
