Luporal Capsule may be taken with or without food. It should be used in the dose and duration as prescribed by your doctor. It is advised to take this medicine at a fixed time.
This medicine should not be taken more than the recommended dose. If you miss any dose, please consult your doctor. It is advised to complete the treatment without any interruption. This medicine is usually well tolerated by patients.
The common side effects of this medicine include nausea, vomiting, hair loss, low number of blood cells (anemia) and a decrease in white blood cell count. The doctor may ask you to undergo a few blood tests before or during the treatment.
Your doctor may prescribe you to undergo blood tests before or during the treatment. You may be given supplements to overcome the deficiency caused by this medicine. It is advised to add more vegetables and fruits in your diet to overcome any such deficiency.
This medicine is not safe to use in pregnancy. Inform your doctor if you are taking any other medicines or if you are breastfeeding. Inform your doctor if you are suffering from any disease. It is strictly advised not to drive or operate heavy machinery while you are on the treatment.
Luporal Capsule is a combination of two medicines: Tegafur and Uracil which treat cancer. They work by interfering with the growth of DNA and RNA of cancer cells by substituting their building blocks. This prevents the cancer cells from growing and multiplying.
Tegafur displays a dose-proportional pharmacokinetic properties. Tegafur is rapidly and well absorbed into the systemic circulation, reaching the peak plasma concentration within 1 to 2 hours of administration 6.Uracil competitively inhibits the catabolic action of dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase. This combined activity allows a significant increase in blood and tissue 5-fluorouracil levels by inhibiting its first-pass hepatic metabolism.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Hypersensitivity to Luporal Capsule is a contraindication. In addition, Luporal Capsule should not be used if you have the following conditions:
Allergic reactions
Blood disorders
Children under the age of 18 years
Children younger than 8 years
Diarrhea
Infections
Kidney problems
Live vaccine
Liver problems
Men or women who are trying to conceive a child
Luporal Capsule is highly unsafe to use during pregnancy. Seek your doctor's advice as studies on pregnant women and animals have shown significant harmful effects to the developing baby.
It is not known whether it is safe to consume alcohol with Luporal Capsule. Please consult your doctor.

Tegafur-uracil is indicated for the first line treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer with concomitant administration of calcium folinate. Colorectal cancer is the third most diagnosed cancer and 30% of the cases can present the metastatic state.
If you use other drugs or over the counter products at the same time, the effects of Luporal Capsule may change. This may increase your risk for side-effects or cause your drug not to work properly. Tell your doctor about all the drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements you are using, so that you doctor can help you prevent or manage drug interactions. Luporal Capsule may interact with the following drugs and products:
Aquasol A
Capecitabine
Claravis
Etretinate
Flucytosine
Fluorouracil
Isotretinoin
Juxtapid
Mipomersen
Phenytoin

Store below 30°C
If you miss a dose of Luporal Capsule, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Luporal Capsule is used for the treatment of cancer of the colon and rectum.
Avoid the use of antacids within 2 hours of taking this medicine.
Drink plenty of water every 24 hours after the start of the treatment.
You may be at risk of infection so try to avoid crowds or people with colds, and report fever or any other signs of infection immediately to your doctor.
To help treat/prevent mouth sores, use a soft toothbrush and rinse your mouth at least 3 times a day with saline water.
To reduce nausea, take anti-nausea medications as prescribed by your doctor, and eat small, frequent meals.
Eat foods that may help reduce diarrhea and take adequate rest.
