Lyxumia 10 Solution for Injection belongs to the GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide) group of diabetes medicines. It works by helping your body produce insulin and by reducing appetite. It also helps to reduce weight in some people. This medicine should be stored in a refrigerator until you need it but do not freeze it.
It is normally injected under the skin once daily. The dose will depend on your condition and what other diabetes medicines you are taking. It should be taken within one hour before the first meal of the day preferably the same meal each day. Your doctor or nurse will show you how and where to inject the medicine. Follow the instructions carefully.
Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor. If you do, your blood sugar levels may increase and put you at risk of serious complications. Following the administration of multiple doses in patients with type II diabetes mellitus, the mean terminal half-life of lixisenatide was approximately 3 hours. The mean apparent clearance of lixisenatide is approximately 35 L/h.

Drug-Drug Interaction: LIXISENATIDE may interact with high blood pressure medicines (propranolol, metoprolol) and glaucoma eye drops (timolol). If you take antibiotics or birth control pills, maintain a gap of at least an hour before using LIXISENATIDE.
Drug-Food Interaction: Limit alcohol intake since it affects blood sugar levels. Avoid fatty foods and include healthy carbohydrates in your diet.
Drug-Disease Interaction: Tell your doctor before using LIXISENATIDE if you have a medical history of allergic reactions to medicines, heart, kidney or liver diseases, dehydration, digestion problems, pancreatitis, gastroparesis, gall bladder disease, or hypoglycaemia. LIXISENATIDE is contraindicated in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis (diabetes complication where the body produces excess blood acids (ketones)).
