Macugen 0.3mg Infusion is administered directly into the eyeball by an eye specialist. You should not self administer this medicine at home. The common side effects include eye pain, redness, blurred or decreased vision and eye discharge.
However, if you experience these side effects for a longer duration or any other symptoms which you think may be due to this medicine, please inform your doctor. It is not advised to drive after administration of this injection as you may feel sleepy or dizzy and your alertness may be reduced.
Macugen 0.3mg Infusion is an anti-angiogenic medication. It works by blocking a protein called vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). This stops the growth and leakage of abnormal blood vessels in the eye(s) that may cause vision loss.
Pegaptanib exhibits “flip-flop” kinetics, a phenomenon wherein the drug remains in the eye for a significant amount of time, is slowly cleared into the systemic circulation, and then is relatively rapidly cleared from the circulation.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Most adverse events elated to the drug are ocular however non-ocular adverse events related to the drug or the injection procedure also occurred, among which headaches and rhinorrhoea appeared in more than 1% of patients. Pegaptanib is contraindicated when the patient has an ocular or periocular infection.
Macugen 0.3mg Infusion is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
It is not known whether it is safe to consume alcohol with Macugen 0.3mg Infusion. Please consult your doctor.
Macugen 0.3mg Infusion is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
Macugen (pegaptanib sodium) Injection decreases the level of a protein that affects the cells of the eye and is used to treat age-related macular degeneration.
