MAGNEON is suitable for use both in adults and in children and can also be used to restore magnesium levels in patients receiving total parenteral nutrition.
Before MAGNEON is administered to you, inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney or heart problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have muscle weakness, or low blood calcium levels before receiving MAGNEON.
MAGNEON may decrease calcium and phosphate levels in the blood. To avoid this, your doctor will constantly monitor the electrolyte levels in your blood and adjust the dose accordingly. It may also cause nausea, vomiting, flushing, headache or drowsiness which usually resolves after few minutes of initiation of the therapy. However, inform your doctor if they worsen.
MAGNEON is a mineral supplement. It supplements your body with sufficient levels of magnesium which is required to maintain healthy nerves, bones, and muscles. It also regulates heartbeat and provides energy to the body by maintaining blood sugar levels. As a result, it prevents various complications associated with low blood magnesium levels such as nutritional deficiencies, nerve damage and seizure outbreaks.
The pharmacokinetic profile of MgSO4 after intravenous administration can be described by a 2-compartment model with a rapid distribution (a) phase, followed by a relative slow beta phase of elimination. The clinical effect and toxicity of MgSO4 can be linked to its concentration in plasma.
