Mefliam Tablet should be used in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Take it with food to decrease the risk of stomach upset. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better.
Some people may have stomach pain, abnormal dreams, chills, depression, and diarrhea, as side effects of this medicine. Please consult your doctor if these side effects persist for a longer duration. Inform your doctor if you ever had fits (seizures) or any problems with your kidney, heart, or liver.
Mefliam Tablet is an antiparasitic medication which treats malaria. It works by increasing the levels of haeme in the blood, a substance toxic to the malarial parasite. This kills the parasite and stops the infection from spreading.
These have shown in healthy volunteers that mefloquine is absorbed with a half-life of 1 to 4 hours and a time to peak concentration of 7 to 24 hours (median 16.7 hours).
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Mefloquine should not be prescribed for prophylaxis in patients with active depression, a recent history of depression, generalized anxiety disorder, psychosis, schizophrenia or other major psychiatric disorders, or with a history of convulsions.
Mefliam Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.

Mefliam Tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
Mefloquine is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate cases of malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax. It is effective against chloroquine-resistant forms of Plasmodium falciparum.
Drug-Drug Interaction: MEFLOQUINE may interact with other antimalarial medicines (chloroquine, quinidine, quinine), antidepressants (amitriptyline), antipsychotics (phenothiazine), medicines for fits/epilepsy (carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, valproate), antifungal (ketoconazole), antibiotics (rifampicin, penicillins, cephalosporins), medicines for HIV infections (efavirenz), painkiller (tramadol), blood thinner (warfarin).

If you miss a dose of Mefliam Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Tips to reduce the chance of being bitten by mosquitoes:

Spray to kill any mosquitoes that may have entered rooms in spite of screening.
