Merobax SB 1.5gm Injection is a combination of two medicines: Meropenem and Sulbactam. Meropenem is an antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering which is essential for the survival of bacteria in the human body. Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor which blocks the action of enzymes produced by bacteria to inactivate Meropenem. Addition of Sulbactam reduces resistance and enhances the activity of Meropenem against bacteria.
Meropenem distributes partly into cerebrospinal fluid. The drug is eliminated both by metabolism and excretion. In normal volunteers, up to 70% is recovered in urine, and the remainder is accounted for by a beta-lactam ring-opened form of the compound, ICI 213689.Sulbactam, a new beta-lactamase inhibitor, has pharmacokinetic characteristics in humans similar to those of ampicillin and amoxicillin. Its half-life in humans is approximately 1 h.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them
