Methimez 5 Tablet may be used alone or in combination with other medicines. It can be taken in with or without food. It should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor will decide the dose and how often you should take them. You should take this medicine regularly to get the most benefit from it. Do not stop taking the medicine even if you feel better unless the doctor tells you so.
Taking this medicine may cause some common side effects such as skin rash, nausea, vomiting, joint pain, paresthesia, loss of taste, loss of hair, muscle pain, headache, and drowsiness. Let your doctor know if any of these do not go away with time or worsen.
Before using this medicine, inform your doctor if you have any problems with your liver or kidneys. You should also tell your doctor all the other medications you are taking. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctors before using the medicine.
Methimez 5 Tablet is an anti-thyroid medication. It works by reducing the amount of thyroid hormones produced by the thyroid gland.
Methimazole and propylthiouracil plasma levels decrease with time according to first-order kinetics. Serum half-life of propylthiouracil is about 1 h, half-life of methimazole is 2–6 h. Antithyroid drugs are concentrated by the thyroid gland.

Methimazole is contraindicated in patients who have had, or previously experienced, hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to methimazole or any of its ingredients. Hypersensitivity reactions may include rash, itching, hives, swelling, difficulty breathing, or anaphylaxis.
Methimez 5 Tablet is unsafe to use during pregnancy as there is definite evidence of risk to the developing baby. However, the doctor may rarely prescribe it in some life-threatening situations if the benefits are more than the potential risks. Please consult your doctor.
It is not known whether it is safe to consume alcohol with Methimez 5 Tablet. Please consult your doctor.
Methimez 5 Tablet is safe to use during breastfeeding. Human studies suggest that the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in a significant amount and is not harmful to the baby.
Methimazole is used to treat hyperthyroidism, a condition that occurs when the thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone. It is also taken before thyroid surgery or radioactive iodine therapy. This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
Drug-Drug Interaction: METHIMAZOLE may interact with blood thinners (warfarin), heart-related drugs (digoxin), respiratory drugs (theophylline) and blood pressure medicines (atenolol, carvedilol, labetalol, metoprolol, nadolol, propranolol, sotalol).
Drug-Food Interaction: No drug-food interactions found/ established. However, avoiding high sodium content foods, fatty foods and alcohol is recommended.
Drug-Disease Interaction: Brief your doctor if you have a medical history of liver or kidney diseases, congenital disorders (birth defects), hypothyroidism, blood disorders (agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia) and pancreatitis before taking METHIMAZOLE.

It may affect the level of blood cells in your blood. Inform your doctor if you experience symptoms such as unexplained bruising or bleeding, sore throat, mouth ulcers, fever, or general illness.
Stop taking Methimez 5 Tablet and Inform your doctor if you develop symptoms of liver damage such as abdominal pain, loss of appetite, darkened urine or yellowing of the eyes or skin.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding.
