Metozaar 12.5mg Tablet XL may be prescribed alone or together with other medications. The dose and frequency will depend on what you are taking it for and the severity of your condition. It may be taken empty stomach or with a meal, but take it regularly at the same time each day to get the maximum benefit. It may take several weeks before you get the full benefit of this medicine and you may need to take it for the rest of your life. However, it is important to continue taking it even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not have symptoms if you stop taking it your condition may worsen.
Metoprolol is a cardioselective beta-1-adrenergic receptor inhibitor that competitively blocks beta1-receptors with minimal or no effects on beta-2 receptors at oral doses of less than 100 mg in adults. It decreases cardiac output by negative inotropic and chronotropic effects.
The pharmacokinetic profile of metoprolol succinate extended- release tablet was studied in 120 pediatric hypertensive patients (6-17 years of age) receiving doses ranging from 12.5 to 200 mg once daily. The pharmacokinetics of metoprolol were similar to those described previously in adults.

Metoprolol Succinate Extended-Release Tablets USP are indicated for the treatment of hypertension, to lower blood pressure. Lowering blood pressure lowers the risk of fatal and non-fatal cardiovascular events, primarily strokes and myocardial infarctions.
A product that may interact with this drug is: fingolimod. Other medications can affect the removal of metoprolol from your body, which may affect how metoprolol works. Examples include lumefantrine, propafenone, quinidine, SSRI antidepressants (such as fluoxetine, paroxetine), St. John's wort, among others.
Do not chew, crush or break it. Metozaar 12.5mg Tablet XL may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

If you miss a dose of Metozaar 12.5mg Tablet XL, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

In case you do not feel any difference while taking Metozaar 12.5mg Tablet XL, do not panic. The medicine exerts its beneficial effects when taken for a long time.
